25 Years with ComputerTalk: Reflections on my Career
by Hui Liu | Published On March 18, 2026
Over 25 years, I've grown alongside ComputerTalk, embracing every new technology and challenge with my team.
Looking Back At the Early Days
It’s hard to believe that I’ve been working at the same company for 25 years. Back then, the telecom world was dominated by technologies like analog, TDM, and ISDN. VoIP was more of an idea than a reality—it was just something we talked about in the breakroom. Now, I feel privileged to have witnessed the technological advancements that our products and solutions have harnessed and evolved over time.
That’s probably the reason I’ve stayed at one company for two and a half decades. The truth is, ComputerTalk has never felt like the same company for more than seven years at a time. At least three times in my career here, I’ve had to evolve my entire technical framework to keep pace with the industry. Transitioning from TDM to SIP, and now deep into the cloud communications era, has taught me that while the 'how' of telecom changes, the 'why' stays the same. It has been a constant cycle of thinking a new technology is impossible, then slowly realizing it’s actually brilliant—and then doing it all over again.
The Moments That Stand Out
The moments I remember most aren’t the days when a new release reached General Availability after months of hard teamwork—it’s the nights when it didn’t. It’s those 2:00 a.m. troubleshooting sessions to ensure uninterrupted service for our customers, the challenging tasks of designing customized solutions they expect, and the service outages caused by unforeseen power failures—when we simply adopt a “we’re getting this done” attitude.
It has been amazing to watch ice grow from a PSTN-only call center system into an AI-powered cloud contact center platform that supports people’s daily communication needs around the world. Knowing that even a small part of the work I contributed has helped make someone’s workday easier somewhere in the world is an incredibly rewarding feeling.
Growing Together
Throughout my time on the product development team, ComputerTalk has never put me in a box. Instead, the company has continued to give me room to grow and contribute, with the constant support of my peers. So, if you’re looking at us from the outside and wondering what the secret is, it’s simple: we grow together. We’ve survived the decline of the desk phone, the rise of the cloud, and a million “impossible” deadlines—and we’re still having fun doing it.
